Broken Screen

Other than the obvious cracked screen and distorted screen issues, after a phone has been dropped, problems with your cell phone screen can be caused by a number of other problems. It could be a software problem or electronic component other than the screen. The battery charge could be low or the battery could be faulty. It could even be something that was knocked loose inside the phone. You could try powering the device down and then turning it back on to reset the software, and checking the screen to see if it works afterwards. You could also try charging the phone for several hours and checking the screen again, but unless you have worked as an electronics repair tech recently it is not a good idea to attempt such a repair yourself. Cell phones are very delicate, and you always run the risk of causing further damage to the phone when you take it apart. Professional diagnosis and repair is the best option for screen issues.

Water Damage

FIRST: Take the phone out of the liquid, and remove the battery, sim card, and memory card. Gently dry with a towel. SECOND: Submerge the phone in a bag of rice for 16 hours. Do not move the phone more than you have to, and do not push any buttons—this can draw water further into the phone. Do not try to blow-dry the phone, and do not turn it on for a full 16 hours. THIRD: If you phone is still not working professional diagnosis and repair is the best option. Bring it in and let us take a look.

Software Issues

If you are having what you suspect to be software issues on your phone, first make sure you have all of your software updates. If this does not work, you can back-up your data and reset the phone. If you would rather not do this, our experienced technicians are available to help. Give us a call or have us take a look.

Power Issues

Are you having trouble turning your phone on and off, this can be caused by a number of issues: it could be a battery issue; it could be a broken power button; it could even be an overheating issue. When a phone is dropped, jarred, or occasionally just through repeated use, the internal components of your power button can be knocked loose or damaged causing connections to be missed. It would not hurt to make sure the battery is not dead by charging it overnight, but unless you have worked with small electronics repair in the past it is not a good idea to attempt such a repair yourself. Cell phones are delicate, and you run the risk of causing further damage to the phone when you disassemble it. Another problem is that you could replace the button only to find out later that the issue was really a faulty battery or something else. Professional diagnosis and repair is the best option for power issues.

Home Button Issues

Are you are unable to return to your home screen? Broken home buttons are a common cause and can prevent you from operating your phone. If the button is gunked-up with dirt or other residue you can try putting a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and see if you can dissolve the gunk or break it free by pushing the button several times afterward, but unless you have worked as a phone repair tech in the past it is not a good idea to attempt a repair yourself. Cellular phones are delicate, and you run the risk of further damage to the phone when you take it apart. Another challenge is that you could replace a component only to find out later that the issue was really caused by something else. Professional diagnosis and repair is the best option for home button issues.

USB Port Issues

Is your phone not charging or refusing to sync? The wear and tear of a USB port’s long term use can cause these problems. The internal components that make the USB port work can get loose or out of place as well. First test the phone using another charging cord, or test its cord with another device. If the cord won’t charge the other device or your phone charges with another cord, just replace your cord. If the above steps did not solve your problem, our experienced technicians are available to help.

Charging Issues

Charging ports are easily damaged. We are constantly connecting and disconnecting our cords, and over time this can bend, displace or damage our phone’s internal components. One thing to try would be making sure the port is clear of residue. The charging port can be dirty or gunked-up, blocking the charge connection. You can try putting a small amount of rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and seeing if you can dissolve the gunk or loosen it for removal, but unless you have worked on electronics in the past it is not a good idea to attempt a repair yourself. Cell phones are delicate, and you run the risk of causing even more damage to your phone when you disassemble it. Additionally you could replace something only to find out later that the issue was really something unrelated. Professional diagnosis and repair is your best option for charging repairs.

Audio Issues

Are you having issues with the sound on your cell phone? If you are experiencing poor sound quality on your phone or you can’t hear sound at all, it is likely a speaker problem. On the other hand if on a call you can hear others fine, but they cannot hear you, then it is probably a microphone problem. If the sound is distorted or fading in and out there could be other issues. The phone could be having connection problems with its carrier. It could even be a software problem caused by an app. Unless you have worked on electronics professionally in the past it is not a good idea to attempt such a repair yourself. Cellular phones are delicate equipment, and you run the risk of causing further damage to the phone when you disassemble it. Another common problem is that you could replace something only to find out that the issue was really something unrelated to what you replaced. Professional diagnosis and repair is always the better option for audio issues.

Cell Phone Camera Issues

If your camera won’t function as it should: Make sure your memory card is properly positioned. Make sure you have all of your software updates. You can attempt to fix your camera with a reset. Just remove the battery from the phone without turning it off first. Then, after about two or three minutes, replace the battery and turn the phone on. Then test the camera to see if this has resolved the issue. If the above steps did not solve your problem, our experienced technicians are available to help. Give us a call or have us take a look.

Keypad Issues

Sometimes a keypad will stop functioning for apparently no reason. When this happens you can try to resolve it with a factory reset, but if you think the problem is not related to software, or if this is not something you are comfortable doing, our experienced technicians are available to help. Give us a call or come in and have us take a look.

You could even try charging the iPhone overnight, but unless you have worked as an electronics repair tech recently it is not a good idea to attempt a iPhone repair yourself. The iPhone 7 & 7 Plus

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were released on September 16, 2016. These became the latest iPhone installment and replaced the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus as the most current iPhones on the market. The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are similar in size and shape to the iPhone 6S, but there are new color options, a new home key, a quad-core system-on-chip, improved graphics, performance, and cameras with enhanced zoom. Much has been made of screen improvements to this model. Some of the many complaints are that there just are not that many serious improvements that make an upgrade worthwhile for everyone, the jet-black version scratches easily, the click-free home button is strange, and there is no headphone jack only a dongle compatible wired headphones. In addition only the larger 7 Plus model has the cool dual camera system.

Sales of the new iPhone 7 & 7 Plus

There seems to be evidence that iPhone sales on the newest of the line, the iPhone 7, are not moving in the direction Apple would like. Ming-Chi Kuo at KGI Securities has posted that lower shipments are dragging down sales. Apple has declined to reveal how many iPhones were sold on the first weekend. This policy of limited supply for the latest installment of a product that often breaks sales records does not paint a good picture. While most phone makers would love to sell the volume that Apple does it appears that for Apple the current trend is a movement backward. As Apple has so much invested in the iPhone series and so much of their business is built around iPhones this is not the best news for the company or its investors. Has the iPhone peaked, or worse, has it lost favor in the market? These are questions that many are asking. But before we begin to think of the iPhone as the next Blackberry we should use caution. Sales are always in flux. In the end we have to ask one thing: is it a good phone. We believe the answer is yes.

Since the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were released on September 16th there has been much to talk about. To no ones surprise the general size and shape of Apple’s newest offerings are nearly the same as their predecessors. There is a virtual (no click) home button, a quad-core system-on-chip, improved graphics, improved performance, cameras with enhanced zoom, and there is the removal of the headphone jack. As one might expect there have also been some strong opinions about a couple of these changes.

In particular the removal of the headphone jack has been controversial. While the phone comes with a dongle that is compatible with headphones some complain that this reduces functionality. What if one wants to charge their phone while they listen to music? To do this one either has to buy new wireless headphones or a special rather clumsy adapter. The fact that Apple does not include this adapter with such an expensive phone does not seem to improve matters. Nor did it improve matters that in the self-aggrandized explanation of this choice Apple claimed that it was a ‘courageous’ move on their part. The fact remains that this was not merely an aesthetic move. It did improve the phones water resistance to some extent. On the topic of ear pods Apple has acknowledged a problem with the volume controls stop working and says that this will be addressed on the next iOS 10 update.

Another complaint has been that only the larger 7 Plus model has the cool dual camera system. Battery life has also been the topic of many criticisms. It seems that many report that the battery life of their new iPhone 7 or 7 Plus does not compare favorably to their old 6 or 6s model. There are complaints that the jet-black version scratches easily and has a tendency to collect dust oils and grime. There is also what has been dubbed “hissgate”. Many users have noted a distinct hissing sound while the phone is in use. This is said to be more pronounced if you put your ear to the back Apple logo. On the plus side the click-free virtual home button is easier to use and one less working part that can be damaged. There are cool new color options, a quad-core system-on-chip, improved graphics, improved performance, and cameras with enhanced zoom. So, while there may be fewer early adopters this time around, you can bet this time next year there will be plenty of iPhone 7’s in the mix.

Is my LCD screen cracked or is it the digitizer?

There are three main parts to the touch screen on your smartphone: the LCD screen, the digitizer (touch panel), and the glass cover. The most commonly broken piece on a cell phone is the digitizer which lays on top of the LCD and allows the touch screen to function. In many cases, the digitizer can be replaced without having to replace the LCD. If you turn on your phone and you see everything but aren’t able to operate the touch screen then it is likely your digitizer that needs to be replaced. If you cannot see the picture or the picture it is cracked, then it is likely the LCD that needs to be replaced. In many of these cases, we can replace the LCD and do not have to replace the digitizer as well. If your cell phone is not cracked: Does the phone power on? Is your screen black? If your phone doesn’t power on, it could be a battery issue, charger problem, or even charging port problem. If this is the case visit our cell phone repair page (home page) for more details. The Budget Cell Phone Repair team is available 9am-9pm seven days a week. We are affordable, we offer free diagnostic, and same day service. We also service all major brands.
